Great news that Apple will be adopting RCS, via 512 Pixels. iMessage is the biggest lock-in to Apple platforms for me. RCS won’t change that overnight, but if it makes Android interoperability better, I’m for it.

@manton It's not clear whether messages from Android will still be green.

@amoroso Probably will still be green. A non-green, non-blue color would be a nice bonus, but it's fine.

@manton Agree, glad that there will be better interop with Android.

This move by Apple in ‘24 could have bigger impact/be more important for most people than releasing Vision Pro.

@manton I’m happy to see this only because my girlfriend wants to send me videos by text, but, often can’t because Apple forces SMS to be used. Instead, she opts for Facebook Messenger, which I don’t often have installed which means seeing a message long after it was sent. RCS will remedy all of this.

@manton If Apple's RCS implementation supports the encryption stuff, then I consider this to be bad news because all the RCS encryption is Google-proprietary and all such messages go through Google. No thank you.

@clonezone There's another quote from Apple about that. They say they won't implement encryption until it's a standard part of RCS.

@clonezone as @manton has said, Apple will not implement Google's RCS, but GSMA Universal Profile. It will interop with Google, IMHO, but only without encryption.
