Why does old snow get bumpy like this? This patch is on the north side of some brush, on a downslope, so it is still thick when other spots in the sun are now clear. But I think I’ve only just wondered why it is shaped like this.

@cliffordbeshers My first thought would be wind. Interesting that it looks like waves on the surface of the body of water on a windy day.

@Denny That is my suspicion as well, that the wind compacts the snow unevenly when fresh, causing melting to happen unevenly. But I don't really know.

@cliffordbeshers i second gently wind blown freshly fallen snow before it melts and refreeses. These look exactly like dunes in miniature with a steep side and a gently sloped side.

@cliffordbeshers Or maybe a camera trap?

@jeremycherfas I don't follow that.

@cliffordbeshers A camera trap would be able to snap the tiny skiers without you needing to hang about with a macro lens and maybe scare them off.

I’ll get my coat and see myself out.

@jeremycherfas I'll get right on that, as soon as I get this straitjacket off.
