More Dia doubt: manton.org
@manton Sometimes I want an answer, and I go to ChatGPT for that. Sometimes I want to find a web page and I go to Google for that.
I don’t know why I want AI integrated into my browser. I already have ChatGPT and multiple other AI options.
@MitchW It’s not a question of what YOU want. It’s never a question of what YOU want. It’s always a question of what THEY want.
@apoorplayer They will find they don’t have customers.
I stopped using Arc a year or two ago when the company started getting even more weird than it already was. All productivity software can be culty, but Arc went in hard on the cultiness early.
@MitchW I’m trying Vivaldi on my Linux setup. A bit of a learning curve. But I think Big Tech will always have plenty of customers. The continued dominance of Facebook and X makes that obvious. PS - Love your XX Things I Found on the Internet Series!
@manton I’m pretty bummed out by the shift from Arc to Dia, but I think it was probably destined to end up this way as they’ve got investors to please and salaries to pay. I’m not sure a for-pay browser is ever going to be a profitable business, unless it’s attached as a feature to something else.
@manton “As for The Browser Company, if they were bootstrapped or had minimal funding, they could charge a subscription for Arc or Dia.” Yes, totally! The problem was never with Arc, it’s their business model which is compelling them to (foolishly?) chase one billion users.
@cleverdevil Yeah, they have what I consider a large team, so the revenue will have to be significant. I’m still open to being happily surprised by Dia. But it does seem easier as part of another business.
@apoorplayer I use Facebook despite Meta’s attempts to “improve” the platform. And I’m glad you enjoy that feature! I enjoy doing it.
