Finally got around to trying GEOS. It’s nuts that they got a pretty decently usable desktop environment working on such limited hardware

@decarbonization I remember driving GEOS using my joystick when I was a kid; thinking it was cooler than any game.

@canion it’s definitely one of the coolest bits of software on the platform – did you get it bundled with a C64c?

@decarbonization I was one of the very few that bought a 128D, and it came with that.

@decarbonization I was hardcore into PC/GEOS. BeOS ahead of its time. ;-)

@gerwitz I bought BeOS as well. It was so cool, and I was mightily disappointed when it didn’t work out. It was pre-emotive multitasking that was its claim to fame, right? I remember it was very efficient. Awesome window tabs too.

@canion preemptive multitasking all the way through the window manager, I think. And an OO GUI library.

@gerwitz I just realised autocorrect changed my ‘preemptive’ to ‘preemotive’. Damn autocorrect.

@canion preemotive is a level of sophistication we haven’t quite reached in desktop OSes, yet.
