@jeffmueller I hadn't given Matter any attention until today, so I took it for a spin. Will be interesting to see how people respond to the new $8/month price and whether it fits with their original VC-backed goals.

@jeffmueller Micro.blog essentially has 80% of read-later functionality as part of its bookmarks system, including archiving pages and highlighting text. But it's buried and does require Micro.blog Premium. I've switched to using it from Instapaper.

@jeffmueller I definitely don't need to pay for a service when I already have Pocket to dump hundreds of articles in to to read later that I am absolutely almost definitely never going to read later 😂

@manton I have yet to find a use for Matter and find myself going back to Pocket. I feel like I’m missing something.

@josephaleo Don't think you're missing anything. A lot of it is just personal preference.

@jeffmueller Readwise Reader’s in public beta and is already best in class (tried Matter). IMHO far better than Instapaper, Pocket, etc… readwise.io/read

I suspect Matter’s marketing push is because they are already losing.

@manton Respectfully Mb isn’t close to 80% there on Bookmarks vs these dedicated apps. That is not a knock on you or Mb or Bookmarks, which is a great feature for Mb.

For people that want this type of thing, Mb is about 10% there. These apps are for reading and then taking actions on what we’ve read.

@jeffmueller true! I’m also bracing for what they’ll actually charge for it eventually. I already pay for the Readwise service (also great) but suspect the Readers pricing will be quite a bit more for power users. It is a daily driver app for me.

@camacho agreed. The Readwise product is pretty great.

@camacho I just cancelled my Readwise Premium. I found myself not loving the speed and the clunky UI when compared to GoodLinks.

@mindofaaronw @camacho I’m going all in on Reeder, including for read later, and using GoodLinks for strictly bookmarks. I just don’t find Readwise enough for me to justify the cost, especially since the really useful features are on the premium plan. In Canada it’s even more expensive to be worth it.

@pimoore I quite like Reeder as well. Don’t think either are a bad option. I just prefer using tags with GoodLinks!

@mindofaaronw Reeder does have tags available if you’re using iCloud feeds. I’m still on Feedbin, so I can’t use them.
