We’ve been having our regular family disagreement about thinning our bookshelves, which made this article timely: How and why to cull your book collection [via Kottke.org].

On reflection, our bookshelves are very much a working library, more about flow than about stock. Most books pass through.

@writingslowly I’ve been in my shop building an 8’x6’ set of bookshelves since we’ve overflowed all our current shelves. Here I stand!

@isaacgreene I’m a little jealous! Sounds like the best solution

@writingslowly @isaacgreene as I was cleaning my office this week, I told my wife that I was feeling the urge to get rid of a few books. This only happens once every 3 years or so, so I thought she’d be excited. I found 5 I could part with.

@calebgreene funnily enough five books is roughly what I manage to part with every time I try to cull my bookshelves. My partner is the same, despite some preliminary tough talk. Maybe it’s some hidden law in operation!
