Casey Liss blogs about the multiple-monitor potential of Vision Pro:

Yesterday was an odd day, in which I spent time working at two different local libraries. While I was there, I realized that I am a week and change too early. If I had my Apple Vision Pro with me, I could have the workspace of my dreams, all with only my MacBook Pro and Apple Vision Pro.

To each his own. A key to my productivity anywhere is that I only use my MacBook Pro, no monitors — at home, at a coffee shop, on a train. (Casey’s right, we need more trains here.) There are many places where a Vision Pro is not suitable.

@manton I often need 2 monitors for spreadsheets, project management software, and writing while referencing technical info. I have them connected to arms for ergonomics, too (upper back/neck). No way I could do my job on just a laptop.

@bryan Curious if you think you could do lots of spreadsheets work on the Vision Pro? I don't have any sense of what "real" apps will work well, outside of entertainment.

@manton don’t know! I can’t see myself wearing one of those things but I bet someday something like that could be nice for long rows :)

@manton I don’t think many people will use it in public spaces (but perhaps in semi-private spaces like a conference room or private study area of a library). But if I get one it would be entirely to use as an alternative to buying bigger desktop monitors - as I literally cannot have a bigger desktop monitor currently as my desk is a corner of my living room & my old Apple Display is almost too big for it already.

I think VisionPro may work for people like me without a dedicated home office

@manton I think people are being too optimistic about how well "multiple monitors" will work in the Vision. It's just not that high a resolution. Your "50 foot tall" window is either going to be too "far away" to be better than a monitor or too pixelated when you get up close.

@manton Like you, I’ve never given in to “the crutch” (ha) of multiple monitors. By choice, I rarely spend an entire work day in a single spot.

OTOH, I have told my wife my rationalization for if I ever do get a VisionPro: “Honey, look how much I’ve saved over the years by not buying monitors!” 😂
