@brentsimmons are Github Issues the canonical/best place for feature requests?

@brentsimmons your ethos is awesome. Can’t wait for Alpha.

@jsonbecker Absolutely! Saves me the trouble of adding the issue to GitHub myself. :)

@jsonbecker Is it that you want custom shortcuts — or just short (single-key) shortcuts? Because it does have the latter. See Help (menu) > Keyboard Shortcuts for the list.

@brentsimmons oh interesting. I missed these. It was mostly single key shortcuts... that said, j and k are the two I'll probably always go for to move through the list and forget they don't work. The others I think I can learn.

@jsonbecker The up and down arrow keys do work to go through the list. (I get the appeal of vi-like shortcuts, and I know that Google Reader had those — but the app leans Mac-like over Unix-like.)

@adamprocter I have the luxury of no deadline and no need to make money with the app — which means I get to do things exactly the way I want to. :)

@brentsimmons and here's where the nerd shame comes... because I use an ergodox-ez, movement to the "up and down" arrow keys, based on my layout, is pretty inconvenient. I chose to prioritize right and left for various reasons, and use vim bindings all over.

@jsonbecker @brentsimmons I get why a Vim-inspired layout wouldn't be a priority, but I'm hardwired to "j" and "k" also. It seems that by default, "k" is mapped to "Mark All As Read", which causes me all sorts of surprises :). Also, I use a HHKB, which buries the arrow keys on a function layer so I try to avoid them as much as possible.

@jack I get where you’re coming from, and most of the underlying infrastructure is there for custom shortcuts. This was deliberate on my part.

If you look inside the app package, in the Resources directory, you’ll see some plists that specify the shortcuts. What I’d need to do is add UI for making your own, and then have the app use those instead of the built-in plists.

This would happen some time after 1.0 ships, to be sure, but just so you know: it’s on my radar.

PS I hope you’ve noticed that Mark All as Read (the k key) is undo-able!

@brentsimmons "PS I hope you’ve noticed that Mark All as Read (the k key) is undo-able!" I have! It goes like this: k-'Oh Crap!'-Command-z :).

I've enjoyed NetNewsWire in its various forms for years and it's great having it back, whatever the keyboard shortcuts may be.

@brentsimmons vim keys please :) Looking forward to NNW in any capacity. Though I will probably only play with it until it gets Feedbin syncing.
