@braker1nine I would recommend it! There is definitely something nice about having the comments from Micro.blog (and other IndieWeb sites) on your own site. I definitely recommend Webmentions.io to actually receive them makes it easy so that all you have to do is figure out what you want to do with them.

@EddieHinkle It’s one topic I keep going back on every time. Is it right to store complete content that is “owned” by someone else? I am always divided (more so post discussions around GDPR). So I fall back to my current approach - load mentions on page load.

Btw a technical question, is there a server polling webmention.io for new mention? Didn’t understand the download part.

@amit I look at that a couple of ways. In regards GDPR it’s about businesses not individuals and personal communications. Ethically I also have no problems. I only receive a webmention if someone links to my personal website. In my opinion, as soon as you link to me on the internet, you are exchanging personal communication. No one can tell me what text messages, emails or letters to delete. The difference is often times Webmentions are public, thus if someone sends a webmention delete I set it to private so that it remains personal rather than public, like an email.

@amit As far as downloading, webmention.io has a web hook where I give it a url and webmention.io will send a POST request to my url every time a new webmention comes in and the webmention data will be in the body of the request. That allows me to just save the JSON from the POST requests that come in to that url.

@EddieHinkle Hmmm. I think this sits pretty well with response posts. It becomes a tad bit tricky with mentions - linked posts. In those cases, I do not think hosting and displaying the complete content will be right. May be such non-response posts should be separately handled.
