The social web is more async than we’re used to. This leads to conversations feeling a little broken or delayed as posts are copied between servers. My reply isn’t showing up… Is it because Micro.blog’s servers are overloaded, or is it Mastodon? Thinking about how better to report this status.

@manton It is weird. Yesterday my blog was showing a three part conversation on this post – on the blog page itself – between me and a Mastodon user. A little while later only his original response was there.

This is not a complaint. Just a little info for you to work with.

@bloftin2 Thanks, something appears to be causing conversations to get disconnected. Trying to unravel it.

@bloftin2 Do you remember if your first reply was inside Micro.blog by clicking the Reply link, or on your website comment form or somewhere else?

@manton The rest of the conversation, after his initial reply, looked like this…

@manton It seems after my last reply to him it reverted to showing only his first comment.

@manton It was not “somewhere else.” I’ve been trying to remember this. I feel like it was from my blog comment form, by clicking “log into micro.blog”. But I wouldn’t put money on that.

@manton Here’s a screenshot I took from my phone when his initial comment and 2 replies were showing up. I took the shot because I wanted to show him.

@manton Maybe the general problem is a blessing. The idea of making such lags visible could be good, though.

@manton Sent vs. acknowledged? Created vs. published/syndicated?
