Got derailed looking at electric bikes (again!) and now I want this: eeyo.bike. I’m not super picky about bikes, but the cheap one I got a few years ago is busted and it’s impossible to find a new battery. This seems a common problem for many brands. 🚴

@manton are you using any bsky facets? it looks like the trailing period in 'eeyo.bike.' got subsumed into the link

@manton Yes, that's my bug. No editing so I'll just let it stand, but here's the fixed link: eeyo.bike

@manton I opted for Trek which uses Bosch motors. It is so much fun.

@manton Until there some standardization on batteries, eBike investments are going to have a shelf-life. Feels like what's going on with the remaining Segways. I had a great talk with a guy last year who runs Segway tours in San Antonio and has developed a side business scavenging and reselling Segway parts and batteries since they were discontinued...but at least there were more limited models for those parts.

@manton That’s a slick looking bike! Even by non-e-bike standards!

@Agiletortoise I would love to see some kind of battery standard. I've always thought it would be cool to have those power tool batteries (e.g. Ryobi) work on a variety of devices.

@manton That looks pretty! I think I'm missing something…does Eeyo help solve the battery issue?

@bjhess Nope, not at all! In fact, it might be worse because looks like the battery might be difficult to replace. (Just guessing.)

@manton Bosch, Shimano, Brose, Yamaha, Fazua, TQ – all these are established brands. You’ll easily find new batteries years into the future.
If you want a powerful motor with long range, gor for one of the first four. If it’s sleek and light you’re after, go for one of the latter two.

@jw @manton Shops in the US are few and far between. I had been looking at Urban Arrow until I saw the closest shop was a 4 hour drive. 🙄

@manton That is a consequence of you not being picky abt ebikes. The most important consideration when buying an ebike is dealer network.
