I don’t think Disney live-action remakes really need to exist, but the new Moana could work well. Also, there are occasional new songs that I would love to see re-cut into the original animated versions: for Beauty and the Beast, take out Human Again and put in Evermore; for Aladdin, add Speechless.

@manton Moana is my favorite Disney animated movie, so I will probably (?) watch this, despite being totally uninterested in the live-action remakes. But I’m still grumpy about how crummy Moana 2 was, so my hopes are pretty low.

@bethanyh That makes me wonder if an animated Moana 3 could still happen. Since Moana 2 was originally set to be a TV series, I think they deserve another shot at a full-length movie. But it might be weird to have animated and live-action versions so close.

@manton This is another one that I’m skeptical about just because I love the original so much. Like, I don’t begrudge its existence, but I think it’s not for me. (Same with the others.) I’m intrigued by the choice to recast Moana but not Maui. I assume it’s about Auli’i Cravalho’s age.

@KimberlyHirsh Yeah, it’s a little hard to get excited about the remakes because there are so many. Didn’t even realize Dwayne Johnson was back for this!

@manton I would like to have been a fly on the wall when they decided to make the live action versions. It must have seemed like a very out there, very expensive idea. It’s turned out well for their bottom line though
