Xserve ready to make a comeback? 9to5Mac blogs about a report from The Information about M8 servers. The Information says they might use NVLink:

Apple has considered connecting the M8 chips in the server using an Nvidia set of products called NVLink Fusion, which includes switches, chiplets and software that help chips communicate with each other in data centers.

If Apple has to build these for themselves, they might as well sell them. Quite the leap from selling Mac minis to AI enthusiasts.

@manton Amazing if they went from shunning Nvidia for years, to licensing their chip networking.

Guessing this won’t just be a DGX Spark competitor for enthusiasts though. Perhaps the Studio fills that enough already.

@bax Yep, Studio seems right for enthusiasts, solo developers, if people can afford one with enough RAM. I’m sure the enterprise-y hardware will be very expensive.

@bax @manton I wonder how much the change in attitude toward Nvidia is because of the new CEO or simply driven by business or technical needs.

@jlward @bax Seems too soon to attribute it to a new CEO, but maybe. Technical needs sounds right. Or it could be an experiment and they’ll change things before they ship.
