I always feel a little bit guilty when me walking into the kitchen startles a bird at the balcony bird feeder and it flies away.

I didn’t mean to interrupt your lunch, little bird!

@baldur Yes. In the winter and early spring, we get a lot of meat-tits(?) and such clinging to the wall near the outside of the windows, probably because they can feel the heat coming from the inside. And I try to sit still as not to startle them. Their life is hard enough already. 🐤

@odd I think that would be the flotmeisa in Icelandic? (Bird names are so fun and weird.)

Thankfully, in this instance, the bird returned as soon as I left the kitchen. 🙂

@baldur We call it “kjøttmeis“, in Norwegian. My favourite winter bird is the bullfinch, or “dompap” though.

@baldur same, except it is my hummingbird feeder is right outside my kitchen window (aka my bird blind)

@anniegreens Thankfully the redwings and blackbirds that are my main regulars don't really mind me being in the kitchen as long as I'm not too close.

@baldur I'm sure they'll be back. The birds always know where the good food and baths are (at least that's true of the birds I've seen).
