@manton Mind you, there are still developers who have a successful business with retro-computer games, e.g. the Commodore 64, and modern (emulated) hardware seems a viable business as well. Sticking to a platform can last for 40 years or more.
@manton Ten years! I listened to their podcast and probably heard them mention year, date they started, but didn't feel the weight until you two said that way.
@manton @danielpunkass Excellent episode! The discontinued Panic app I most miss is their iPad app Status Board, which was an implementation of the status board at their office. It was great: mail, messages, tweets, weather, news all on one screen. But they couldn't find a price point to make it work. 😐
@ayjay Big fan of the comments to the second post, in which people flat-out assert that the folks at Panic didn't consider all possibilities.
@SimonWoods “Why didn’t you try charging 200 bucks???”
@ayjay does anyone know of a similar app? The status board app I mean, at the time I only had one iPad so couldn't use it much. Today something similar would be perfect for me (old iPad)
@ayjay I loved that Status Board, too, but also wasn’t ready to pay much for it, so it goes.
@jemostrom You can sort of do it with widgets on your home screen, which may be why no one has developed a similar app.
@ayjay @danielpunkass Thanks for listening! I had forgotten about Status Board. Great app and good example of building something they really needed that other folks might need too. Too bad it didn't work out commercially.
