I just installed the Fraidy Cat browser extension for Vivaldi browser and I’m liking it alot. It crosses the divide between blogs and social networks so you can track RSS feeds from blogs plus what your buddies on Twitter are saying all on the same reader.

@bradenslen I installed the extension for Firefox on Windows. I’d really like the approach if only it worked. I imported an old OPML file and I’ve been trying to delete some fields and move the rest from "Real-time" to "Daily" (or in a few cases "Weekly") but many of them won’t stay deleted/moved 😒

@artkavanagh I wish I could help. The extension is from @kicks and you might want to email a bug report to him. Address should be on the extension page.

I did have a problem grabbing a feed. The extension kept giving me an error message. But all the other sites worked.

I'm adding feeds real slow testing and learning as I go. So far the Chrome/Vivaldi version is working well. I subscribed to @manton 's Twitter feed and it works. I like the way I can subscribe to both social networks individuals and blogs all on the same reader.

@bradenslen Thanks, Brad. After I replied to your post, I noticed that @kicks is on MB. I thought I should probably reinstall the extension, so I removed the old version first. I haven’t managed to reinstall yet. Once I do, and I can be specific about the behaviour that is causing me problems, I’ll file a bug report. At the moment, I don’t think it would be helpful as I’m not really clear what’s happening. I love the approach, though, and I’m sure this will be a great extension.

@bradenslen @kicks I reinstalled the extension (to Firefox on Windows). There’s still one feed I can’t delete but otherwise the erratic behaviour is gone 😊 👍

@artkavanagh Hello! Can you give me the URL of the feed you’re having troubles with? Perhaps it’s something to do with that specific one. (Thankyou for taking a crack at this - the OPML import is only a few weeks old, so I’m sure there is still work to do getting it perfect.)

@kicks Do Indieweb.xyz Subs have feeds? I thought it would be cool to subscribe to certain Subs with Fraidycat, but I kept getting a "Cannot grab feed" type error. I'm thinking Indieweb.xyz plus Fraidycat would make a great discovery combo.

@kicks The recalcitrant feed does seem to have disappeared: it resisted being deleted at first but eventually succumbed. I’m pretty sure it was https://artkavanagh.micro.blog/categories/short-fiction-on-medium/feed.xml. I’m finding the extension really enjoyable to use and an excellent solution to the problem of “following”. Thanks for the work you put into it.
