@apoorplayer I can really relate to what you wrote here. I’m not retired, but I am in my 50s, and your post is one of several I’ve seen on Micro.blog (including one of my own) that reflects a broader question: why keep blogging when it’s hard to tell if anyone is actually reading?
Aren’t we all looking for a “tribe” to belong to? That’s why I chose the domain mitchelltribe.com. I had hoped my whole family—father, mother, brother, sisters, nieces, and nephews—would make use of the things I’ve been self-hosting or paying for. At least my parents use the “family” email, but no one has really taken to the Mastodon or Sharkey instances I set up.
I just want you to know that people do read your blog, even if they remain silent. Micro.blog doesn’t have likes, reads, or boosts, so it’s easy to feel unseen. But your words are heard. I truly hope you find your tribe—people who bring fulfillment and connection during your retirement and beyond.
That said, I still believe Micro.blog is the best-managed and most feature-rich platform I’ve found so far. The thoughtful design and community-focused philosophy really set it apart.

@mlm361 Thanks for the kind words of support. Having looked at other options, I’m staying with Micro.blog, but am downgrading to the $5 plan. Nothing out there AFAICT offers the features that MB does for the money. $5 is a screaming deal IMO for what you get on MB. And the support from @manton is absolutely first-rate - the man is dedicated to his creation. As far as “tribe” is concerned, while the people I’ve found here may not share my interests specifically, I have been impressed and grateful to find a collection of just plain good people. Again, no other site I’ve found offers a community like this of any sort - just naked blogging. As long as I can focus on the fun of writing for its own sake, I’ll be fine. Completely agree with your take on MB - that’s why I’ll be staying.
