Hey, micro.bloggers who use TextExpander, I’m starting a trial of this service.

What is one thing you use it for, that makes you feel like a subscription is worth it?

@annahavron My opinon, if you're going to use one machine (I'm not counting mobile devices) only I think there are better alternatives. I don't know anything about Windows but on macOS I would suggest Typinator.

If you have multiple devices and they are a mix of Windows/macOS I guess that TextExpander is a good alternative. If you have only macOS I would try out Typinator and try to set up the syncing, if it works then I would go with Typinator.

I'm using TextExpander (multiple macOS + multiple AppleID + some other stuff) and it works, the current version is better than the previous but I still prefer Typinator.

@annahavron And yes, if you want to sync with mobile devices that it's TextExpander

@annahavron Then I leave it to some Android/Windows user to give you some advice ... but I think in general you can get better worth of your money with some other app unless you have some special requirements.

@annahavron I’ve been using TextExpander for years and I can’t imagine life without it. Here are only some of the things it does for me:

• Autocorrects typos I make daily
• Automates long chunks of html I use routinely
• Inquiries and response copy for emails
• Generating lorem ipsum for design projects
• Time stamps and date stamps for notes
• Auto completion of long words or phrases I commonly use
• Template for my song of the day posts
• Auto completion for specific addresses and phone numbers
• Emojis I use on occasion but can’t be bothered searching for
• Google searches for people on Twitter
• Generating frequently used hashtags
• Generating various signatures for emails

I hope that provides some inspiration.

@annahavron You want me to pick just one thing? Impossible! OK then: my email address and contact details. (So, that's two, but it's a bit like asking which one is your favourite in a huge bowl of strawberries…)

@annahavron I should perhaps mention what I use it for: date, email addresses, my name, prerequisites for courses at work, some standard templates for various documents

@annahavron I particularly love expansions that use the clipboard contents or reposition the cursor. (Disclosure: I worked at Smile for 10 years.)

@annahavron to be honest, it all depends on what you're doing. As a teacher I didn't use it much (almost everything was unique), when I became the director of studies my use increased many hundreds % (a lot of repetitive stuff)

@annahavron Such things are a perfect use case!

@annahavron Public snippet groups might give you some ideas, including my own contribution, Accented Words. Helpful if you have to type crème brûlée or smörgåsbord frequently.

@annahavron Sorry to be a bit late. I was off yesterday. I created the Brand Names public group because I can never remember when a name is camel-cased or not. That public group lets me not worry about it. I also use @jean’s Accented Words group.
