My caseless device had the first fall today, thankfully a minor one. But until I picked it up and looked for cracks and dents, my mind was racing like crazy. Not a good feeling this. Yuck!

@amit I feel you. I also carry my phone caseless and still remember the feeling you described from the last time I dropped my phone.

@jeroensangers @amit You know there is a solution to this? 😉

@amit since I am a lifelong klutz, even my cases have cases. So far I haven't broken any devices, but it isn't for lack of trying.

@jeroensangers I know, right? Only if the feeling of holding this device without a case wasn't this good...

@ndreas Hah! I know. But am on an experiment. And a experience I guess 🙂

@annahavron Hah! Cases having cases, lol! If you do dent your device with that, it's on the cases 😜

@amit I totally agree on the feeling that it feels wrong to put a case on a phone. On the other hand, they’re not made to handle drops and hard use. I keep my case on because I know I otherwise will break it. These small computers shouldn’t be made out of glass, that’s my take on it. It doesn’t play well with the idea of sustainability.

@amit My theory on this is that if you cover your expensive device with a 10$ piece of silicone, you’re going to treat it as a 10$ device. I constantly see people doing horrible things to their phones: toss it into a bag full with heave and/ or sharp objects, holding it very loosely…

In contrast, without a case you really feel the actual value of the device.

Whenever I have to hand my caseless phone to someone, they usually treat it very, very carefully, often even holding it with both hands.

In short, phones with a case get dropped more often and will likely get damaged before a caseless phone.

@amit Once, my husband flipped a parking garage ticket so perfectly it landed into a micro-millimeter-wide slot on the back of the dashboard, and was irretrievable. Yes, we had to pay a full day's parking that day without the ticket. But witnessing this feat was so impressive and improbable, we agreed that it was worth the loss. If my devices get dented, I'll post about it; because the event would have to be pretty spectacular. 😁

@ndreas True, glass is not a best material to cover the device from all sides. Accident drops remain the biggest worrying factor for these devices.

@jeroensangers An interesting perspective. I never thought about the situation this way, but it does make sense. Drops with and without case on should be a good data point to have. Personally, I always handle my devices with care. I will stay aware to see if my behavior has any impact without a case now.
