I want to track restaurants I want to visit, sorted by city, with links to OpenTable or similar. What app would you recommend for this?
@ttscoff Yelp lets you make collections. One way of viewing bookmarks in a collection is by distance from current location, which is a decent proxy for city, especially once you arrive there.

@ttscoff Day One if you want an app, otherwise just make your own Guide in Maps and you’ll get a lot of detail for free.
@ttscoff I’ve been looking for something for the longest time. The closet I found is this one: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/truffle-restaurant-tracker/id1553919410 it has a map view and links to yelp and google maps. I was also able to add restaurants pretty easily for any missing ones.

I have created my own personal travel guides in the Apple Maps app.
The reason for me was to have up-to-date opening times. This is missing when I enter them in the Contacts app.
@marinaepelman @ttscoff I just wish there was a way to export my Yelp bookmarks, though, since I wasn’t at the mercy of Yelp for future access.
@davidr I think it’s a tradeoff — you can roll your own database or spreadsheet, and populate it manually or with scripts/shortcuts. On the other hand, services like Yelp are nice because they keep information up to date, if a restaurant has moved, changed hours, added or ended takeout service, it will sooner or later get updated. But the more effort a service makes to keep info rich and current, the less open they’ll be to exporting data. (1/2)
