Micro.blog Collections Shortcuts: thingelstad.com
@jthingelstad Glad to see your workflow with Collections. I’m just concerned that if I create too many Collections, they’ll become difficult to manage and remember. I assume you are creating Collections even for a small number of photos used in just one post, right?
@pratik I was worried about that as well and hope over time that there is some further linkage between collections and the pages and posts that reference them. However, even at 64 collections I’m finding it fine for now. For me on posts specifically I’m using a collection when the post has more than around eight images. If less than that, I just link the images like normal. I only use collections when I feel there is a tipping point to make that presentation and reference actually better for the viewer and for me. I find that is around eight. As a result, there are not that many (as a percent) of blog posts that have more than that many images. And, they almost always have titles so using my “Post «Title»” naming convention for the Collections works okay.
@jthingelstad Cool. I’m waiting for better management tools for Collections. Also, displaying only 3-4 most recent photos and then having a “See More” link (great if this is an available setting) when I embed a collection in a post so I can add more images per collection without cluttering up my post/page.
@jthingelstad I started down this path this week, but I gotta think there is a more elegant solution that creating a collection per post. I am really hoping @manton is thinking deeply about this.
@alttext To make sure I understand, you want an easier way to create a collection of photos in a blog post but without having to manually create a new named collection just for one post?
@manton Yes. But the collection is just the way to get them to look nice. I would be satisfied with a styling trick that groups the photos like collections do, even if there weren’t a collection made. But if it did use the collection mechanism, maybe just a way to view/sort collections by named, intentional collections or by “post collections”. Hope I am making sense.
