I’m tempted to go all in on DevonThink anyone want to tell me why I should or shouldn’t. Or is there a funky free libre open source app I should be supporting instead? Has to Have mobile and sync

@adamprocter i bought Devonthink a few months ago to better organize my home paperwork. Everything from manuals to bills.

I was excited at first, but now I barely use it. I bought the pro version for the OCR. That's a cool feature.

The problem is that storing the files on DT or in Dropbox seems the same to me honestly...

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I personally regret paying the amount I paid and it's a shame I cannot sell my licence to someone that wants it. Or at least I don't think I can.

What are you going to use it for? If I may ask :)

@podiboq this is a great question. Well I think I want it as a research tool to help me make more connections to the things I find and save on my travels. I want it to index my whole mac in general and I want to be able to start saving articles and PDF etc into one place. I want to use Obdisian as my scratch pad for writing and Ulysses as my finisher. I have Papers app as my reference tool for journals but I am also hoping devon could fix that I would also need the on Go option to capture things I find. So am thinking a replacement for Papers app , Instapaper, pocket and general capture location with some AI to compare what I find with what is on my mac. I am kinda keen now I lost all my tabs to do weekly tab keep or delete thing too. Don’t know if that makes any sense. I get a small discount as academic but I am still weary of Costs and also to keep that up with v4 etc

@adamprocter While there are considerations with cost/lock-in/platform dependency, the longevity of DT says to me it’s sticking around and, now that I’m grokking it, I’m in. What got me is that found documents that did not contain my search term that were relevant and useful.
