Re-reading Anil Dash’s endgame for the open web blog post and giving it some more thought. The two biggest areas that need our attention: keeping podcasting open and curating the web to highlight human-created content. There are other challenges too, but that’s where I’d start.

@manton thanks for the summary. we can keep podcasting open if we build on its openness. and for that we need help from the people who make players.

also agree about human-created content. on a new repo i started there’s a caveat on the home page not to post machine-generated stuff. the first posts on the rss.chat repo were people dumping long specs written by claude. i don’t read those manifestos from my claude, not going to read his.

@manton btw in case anil dash reads this, i haven’t always been a fan, and i know vice versa, but we all have to work together, if you want to achieve those goals.

@manton same with cory doctorow. he’s been such an eloquent advocate for RSS. we’re ready to give him more, but there’s nothing going on there as far as i know.

@dave I’d love to see all podcast players adopt video streaming. There’s an RSS extension for it. Otherwise we’ll keep losing ground to video silos.
