Cognitive surrender” is… vivid (via this excellent roundup of studies and reporting).

@ablerism My chief worry is about the people (mainly young) who can’t surrender what they don’t possess.

@ablerism What a treasure trove! This is exactly what I needed to arm myself for the faculty “summit” we’re having in a few weeks about our future with AI (which, unless I miss my guess, will encourage more adoption/use). I know I’m on the losing side here, but at least I have studies on my side :)

@isaacgreene @ablerism Thankfully I no longer have to bang my head against that wall, but I appreciate the poem at the end. (And will file away “cognitive surrender.”)

@isaacgreene Lmk how it goes? I am finding some colleagues are relieved to discover likeminded skeptics.

@isaacgreene Long live the losing side! Also, I now have a hilarious image of you walking into a staff meeting and handing out printouts. “… And if you turn to page 9 you can see how, in conclusion, a Tri-System Theory characterizes a triadic cognitive ecology, with System 3 accounting for the way AI reframes human reasoning and…” [pushes tape-wrapped glasses up the bridge of his nose and blinks awkwardly] “may entirely reshape human autonomy and accountability in the age of AI.”

[Silence in the boardroom. More awkward blinking.]

“Thank you, Isaac, but we just wanted to know how your vacation was.”

@ablerism Well, @tinyroofnail just gave what I fully expect to be the actual report :)

If I don’t crash into my summer coma too fast I’ll try to blog about it a bit too.
