Hey folks, a few years ago I used to say “hey guys” all the time, and I was pretty resistant to anybody telling me I shouldn’t. Even though I get the many defenses for this phrase being gender-neutral, it’s not appropriate when addressing a mixed-gender group you don’t know well.
@danielpunkass It's been bizarre to see how this guys thing has spread into culture. It was nonexistent in the UK until a few years ago. I think every YouTube video starting with "Hi guys" is the main culprit. It brings to mind this classic sketch by Limmy.
@danielpunkass yes agree, I try to deploy the same tactic but I also like that YouTube clip. I try and say hey Everyone more now generally.
