Location check in šŗ ā The Roman Baths, Bath
@thedimpause I got to visit during my first year of college! Itās such a faint memory now lol
Enjoy!
@UndamnedOne Yes, I am using an Apple Shortcut that uses the Get current location function and posts to Microblog:
š Check in Shortcut
where you need to edit the shortcut and enter your Micro.blog authorisation token in the first text field.
Probably not a very elegant way of doing it!
@thedimpause and thank you for sharing!
@thedimpause I think this is awesome. Iām obsessed with Shortcuts. How did you learn to make them? This one looks pretty advanced.
Iām still trying to figure out how to use Humboldt to post text and a photo at the same time. No luck there so far.
@UndamnedOne Iāve really only learned about Shortcuts by looking at those made by other people with the occasional dip into the Shortcuts User Guide. So a process of experimentation, trial and error š
My location check in shortcut is probably the most complicated Iāve done - but thatās because I know very little about posting to Micro.blog with the JSON API. I used the Micro.blog Help page Location API data along with (again!) looking at how other people had done posting to Micro.blog using Shortcuts.
Afraid I havenāt attempted uploading images using Shortcuts - I mainly use Mimi on iOS - and havenāt used Humboldt at all ā¦
@thedimpause thatās interesting⦠Iāll test this one out and probably mention it in an upcoming videoā¦
@numericcitizen Hope it works for you - itās almost certainly not the most elegant solution!
Of course the check in relies on you naming (or typing a message about) the location you are checking into, unlike something like FourSquare which has its own database of places.
But I quite like the results on my blog - e.g. this post. I have modified my post templates to show a map if the location data is present. Idea taken from @manton where he did a similar thing at manton.coffee. Iām using the Google Maps service but other mapping services are available!
@BenjaminHolsteen Just remember to edit the Shortcut and insert your own Micro.blog App Token in the first text box in place of the
>insert microblog auth token here
placeholder text š
Hadnāt really planned on sharing this widely, really would like it to be a little more polished - the confirmation response to a successful check in should definitely be more elegant!
@thedimpause Yes, I noticed the need for my own auth code, added it in and tested it. Works great! As for elegance, Iām a ādoes the car get me from point a to point b? Yes? Than itās a good car!ā guy. I appreciate you sharing itāeven if itās not (subjectively) perfect! š
@thedimpause Interesting Shortcut. The built-in check-in function of WithKnown has been giving me a fair bit of grief lately, mostly not showing the map, and this would be a good starting point to see if I can make something similar.
@jeremycherfas Definitely! Using the Get current location function in Shortcuts could allow you to push latitude and longitude wherever you like or, if itās of any use, link to the Apple Maps location.
