Do you still have a reason to stay on Twitter?
@pratik a lot of people I like, and who are going to find another home challenging, are still there. Hilarious comedy accounts. My fiends are there. I want to leave, but thereās still enough there thatās it ps worthwhile for me to keep checking in.
@pratik Yes. Regardless of āthat newsā, very many people I know still actively exist only on the birdsite. Lots of space news also continues to break out there, and I donāt mean just big news, which will always trickle elsewhere, but other small yet important updates from scientisits leading a certain space mission/instrument, say.
@pratik If I start requesting people to shift to the many other options, all my time will end up doing that and not space stuff, and still not work. Not to mention that many people will think why am I ābotheringā them with something they have no priority or personal importance for.
@pratik Existing there doesnāt automatically equate to supporting all of Twitter. If so, the same could be argued for, say, people using Macs instead of Linux despite Apple being peak greedy and hypocritical while good, ethical Linux being the Mastodon/Micro.blog equivalent. But we donāt see users just flocking to Linux and declaring war at Apple. At some point everyone just wants to get their work done. For everyone, some sacrifices for ethics are more possible than others, and thatās where they speak up most but they too have their own share of compromises, just in another category.
@pratik I have a few friends who wonāt leave until the whole thing burns down. That said, I follow a list of those people via RSS. No plans to interact or post there myself. I stopped crossposting a week or so ago and changed my name to my mastodon instance over two weeks ago. Folks know where to find me. Some have.
@pratik A few years back, I decided it only added anxiety and little value, so I deleted it. When I wonder what someone has tweeted, I go to their individual account and read what theyāve said.
@pratik we had this conversation a few days ago. I was amazed how passionate people were with responses. Twitter to me is a supporting research, search engine and to get customer service support quickly. Beyond that ā¦no use anymore. I thought that āfigureā, was only being reintroduced, to increase fun twitter toilet roll quotes lol š
@pratik Iāve had two groups of people adding me. One are m.b users finding me though the social.lol feed, most likely. The others are locals, probably finding me when someone else they know mentions me. Both are gradual, but Iām good with that.
