Let’s talk iOS podcast clients for a minute. I’ve been using Overcast for years and really like it, but I’m hearing more and more about other options like Castro and even Apple’s own Podcast client. What are your favorites and why?

@SteveSawczyn Castro, for the triage workflow, and look and feel. Used Overcast for a long time, nothing wrong with it, enjoyed the web player. Castro has a basic player available when you share the link from the episode you’re listening to, more complicated to get to, but that triage thing is great.

@SteveSawczyn Pocketcast is pretty good. I much prefer how my queue is managed compared to Overcast.

@SteveSawczyn I’ve tried all the big ones. Used Overcast for years. Had a Castro sub for a year. Now paying for Pocket Casts. I like that it has an iPad app and the sync is fast.

@SteveSawczyn Castro is my vehicle for podcasts. For me it takes away a sense of overwhelm if I a lot of podcast episodes are backuping up. I find with its interface, I can drop podcasts that I want to listen to into the queue, and just delete/archive others. It feels easy and light. I'm enjoying podcasts!

@SteveSawczyn After a couple month stint on Overcast(it’s queue management doesn’t work for me), I switched back to PocketCasts. Great queue management, multi-device sync, good watch app.

@maique Yeah, I haven't fully wrapped my head around the way Castro triages things, but as someone with a bunch of stuff in my cue that i'll likely never get to, triaging may definitely be a plus for me. :)

@jakelacaze Yeah, there is definitely a lot to be said for simplifying the number of apps used. I'm also taking another look at a number of Apple apps as while I may have dismissed them a while ago, many have come a long way. Reminders is definitely one, thinking Podcasts might be another because of Siri and HomePod integrations.

@paulgrav I'll definitely check that out, thanks. i used to use Pocketcast on Android, but didn't realize somehow that they had an iOs version.

@canion Thanks i will definitely check that out. i had used Pocketcast on Android, didn't realize somehow that they had an iOS client. I realize you're not using it now, but did you find the triaging thing in Castro handy? That seems to be the big draw for Castro and I'm still wrapping my mind around how that might work for me.

@crossingthethreshold I'm still trying to wrap my head around the triaging aspects of Castro as that seems to be the biggest draw for that client, but you exactly describe the problem I have with Overcast and with other players: a ton of stuff piled up which I'll never listen to. Then I delete it all because that's easier than catching up and of course in short order, i fall behind again.

@SteveSawczyn I can still get behind with my podcasts - life happens and I don’t have time to listen - but I find that Castro lessens the feel for me of overload. Yes , I can set up Castro for new episodes to go straight to my queue, but I can also delete them for the queue if necessary. Those I don’t have going straight to my queue just wait in the newly arrived podcasts, and I can limit how many are there as well.

I was listening to a podcast recently which described a podcast list as like a todo list, giving the listener a sense of having to work through that list. For me Castro lessens that weight.

@SteveSawczyn I liked the triage but you can do the same thing in Pocket Casts relatively easily.

@crossingthethreshold That sounds like some great customization possibilities. Will definitely check it out.
