The bookmarks pages in Micro.blog haven’t felt quite right to me, so today I rolled out a small redesign that I think better integrates bookmarks, highlights, and links. (This is only for Micro.blog Premium subscribers. Premium adds web page archiving and making highlights in bookmarked pages.)

@SimonWoods A dedicated app is a really interesting idea, especially since the official Micro.blog app can't really do everything yet that the web site can do. Right now I don't think we have enough people to manage yet another app. Maybe a third-party opportunity.

@SimonWoods @manton, how does this work when you have multiple highlighting abilities in your browser? (I’m a major user of Readwise.)

@cambridgeport90 I don't use Readwise so I'm not sure. It might conflict, but I think if you use Readwise then at least the highlighting part of this feature could be ignored. The bookmarks and archiving would still work.

@manton thank you for the clarification. That’s sort of what I was figuring, but I just wanted to make sure. Either way, I love what you’re doing with us. Which is one of the reasons why I went back to using it full-time at least for the time being.

@pratik @cambridgeport90 @JohnPhilpin We have a highlights CSV export (Posts → "…") that I think is compatible with Readwise. I've signed up for Readwise but haven't had a chance to really explore more.

@manton @cambridgeport90 @JohnPhilpin I have done that and it works excellently. I was talking more about a continual sync like they have for Libby, Kindle, Hypothes.is, etc.

@pratik I think those sync options were built by Readwise themselves. However, we could have an option inside Micro.blog that would push highlights into Readwise.

@manton If it can be done via Micro.blog, great. Even better, if it gets Readwise highlights to Micro.blog coz I would blog about them here anyway. BTW I think @JohnPhilpin has an inside track at ReadWise so maybe they can build something for you too.

@manton readwise has an API. I just discovered it trying to figure out how to sync to my own site. readwise.io/api_deets

@JohnPhilpin @pratik Okay, I've added an initial highlights sync to Readwise! Click Bookmarks → "..." → Export. It has some limitations so we'll see how it works in practice and consider more later.

@manton Awesome! Enabled now. BTW why not display page title instead of URL in the Links tab for Bookmarks?

Also, since I now use Arc as my primary browser and it doesn't support bookmarklets (yet), does any Chrome extension exist to send URLs to Mb Bookmarks? I email Arc about supporting bookmarklets every time they release a new update 🙃

@pratik Hmm, I think we do have page title that we could show there. For a Chrome extension, Omnibear should work, but to be honest I haven't tested it in a while.

@JohnPhilpin Yes, highlights are Micro.blog Premium only. It is supposed to be hidden otherwise, but I might have a bug there.

@manton @pratik I lost track of this ... is there a Micro.blog highlights to Readwise sync? I looked for it in the help center but didn't see it.

@cygnoir @pratik Yes, there's an Export option under the "..." menu now. You can export as CSV or set a Readwise token to sync new highlights to Readwise as they are created. (Won't sync previous highlights, though.)

@manton Got it. I just tested it with a highlight on Micro.blog and it synced to Readwise. 👍🏻
