Mark Zuckerberg wrote an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal yesterday that didn’t seem to get much attention. Hard not to read it as anything but a veiled critique at Anthropic:

The notion that AI is so dangerous that the only safe path is an extreme concentration of power seems dangerous. Historically, hoping that an absolute power will benevolently provide for humanity if sufficiently enlightened hasn’t led to safe or positive outcomes.

The irony is that Meta has itself created an extreme concentration of power in the web.

@numericcitizen My current theory about Mark is that subconsciously he wishes he had created a platform company and not an advertising business. Many conflicts and mistakes are because of this.

@manton It’s almost like a child (emotionally) was given too much money and influence.

@manton Lots to say about Facebook, but they are pretty great regarding open source. Hopefully that continues in AI

@bax I expect it’ll continue. Definitely they’ve open sourced so much. React Native is a huge one.

@manton that’s the problem with the lot of them. It’d be a diametrically opposite position if they were the ones that had a leading frontier model.
