Another awesome parenting moment. Today was Zane’s first ride on the bike, no stabilisers. That boy has always had a real talent for anything with wheels. His brain just gets it. Obviously a winter using a balance bike prepared him. Super recommend the Y-bike from an early age.

@kaa I think what you call stabilisers is what we called "training wheels" when I was a kid. I don't know what a balance bike or a Y-bike is. It's possible I had a tricycle when I was very young, but I don't recall it. I have a VERY clear memory of how I learned to ride a bike. My father took me to a park by the river about a mile from our house. It's about three miles from our current house. It had a fairly steep hill (rare in this prairie land) that dropped down from the tennis courts to an open field below that. We went to the top of that hill by the courts and pointed the bike down the hill. He helped me get on the bike and explained that we were going to go down the hill, with him holding the bike up. No worries. Okay, so we started down the hill and not far along, with the bike picking up some speed as I pedaled along, my father, who was running along by my side, let go of the bike. By the time I got to the bottom of the hill, I knew how to ride a bike. It was one try, no falling, no problems. I never ever had or used a bike with training wheels. It was one of the coolest things my father ever did for me.

@Ron That's a pretty cool story (which you should totally blog about if you've not already). A Y-bike is a form of non-pedal bike, so they they use their legs exclusively making them focus on the balance part first and then you introduce the pedalling (which is the easy part)
