I’m looking forward to adding posts from new microbloggers to the Discover timeline so we can all say “hi”. New folks: if you could add a profile pic and a sentence or two to the About Me section under your Account Settings on the web, that would be a big help for curation!

@macgenie I think you should also tell people to check the Mentions tab often. Recently I wrote a custom tailored Welcome haiku to two new people I saw in Discover. Neither of them replied. Maybe they figured I'm a weirdo and wanted to steer clear or maybe they didn't know to check Mention and never saw my Welcome.

@Ron 👍🏻 Good point. If you don’t see the original notification, it’s too easy to miss.

@Ron Looks like that’s missing from the first cut at the Intro video, too.

@the And if you’re not on Mac/iOS and using the official apps, you don’t get a notification at all ;-) (And even then, notifications for mentions in posts [vs replies] don’t work.) So just check your Mentions (which I tend to forget sometimes, too)!

@Ron Good point. I will point that out. (I didn’t know you wrote haiku!)

@quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com okay interesting a reply to a micro.blog post gets published twice. You can find one with my correct haiku spacing as an original post and then this one from my site that has my url as a username...

@macgenie Yes, a writer for Reuters in Asia got me started with it. It's a perfect format for Micro.blog, as they always fit within 280. Plus you have to count syllables and of course I'm very good at counting. :)

@the Yes, from the very beginning I got into the habit of checking Mentions often. At the very least, it's polite to reply, if someone says something to me.

@smokey See Jean's reply. Looks like she's gonna add it in to the new person hatting somehow.

@smokey I'm glad someone got the joke. I think you're the most careful reader on Micro.blog. Thanks, my friend. :)

@Ron Probably not the most careful, just the one who chose to respond 😉 To me, that was just screaming out for a reply of some sort, even though you made it understated in the manner of Simon’s small announcement.

A tax accountant who’s good at counting; why, who ever would have thought! 🤣
