@marmanold I can say it in Greek, but I can’t spell it.

@ReaderJohn I really want to learn Greek. Just never seem to have the time.

@marmanold My Greek is limited to brief bursts of the Divine Liturgy that I have heard done often enough in Greek that I can imitate them like a magpie.

@ReaderJohn Do you do any Slavonic in your parish? My former ACROD parish used to do one of the main hymns in Slavonic every Sunday, in rotation. But if I remember rightly yours is a more convert-y parish, so maybe "old time's sake" gestures aren't as important.

@JMaxB We are an extremely converty Parish. We only do Slavonic at Soul Saturdays and Panikhidas, and then only if Carpatho-Rus, Russians or Ukrainians are present.

I’ve learned what Slavonic I know, ironically, singing Russian repertoire in a “secular” chorus - in transliteration but with pronunciation guides from Vladimir Moroson at Musica Russica.

I used to brighten the morning of a completely non-Anglophone Russian babushka (mother of an immigrant who never came) by throwing in “slava bozhe” in Matins.
