As Stephen Wormtongue Miller tutors us about the “real world, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power,” I’m very glad to be in a church where every Sunday we sing the Beatitudes, which tell us the way blessedness works.

@ReaderJohn I try, genuinely, to understand the point of view of my Christian MAGA friends and family. But this celebration of death and vengeance is tipping me over the edge. Hypocrisy is a failure of us all. But to live in open defiance of the teaching of the one who you say is your lord and master is staggering.

@jabel I hear you. I don’t get it either - except insofar as the center of gravity of American Christianity is two-plus schisms and two Great Awakenings removed from the original Christian faith.

@JohnBrady “Wormtongue” was soooo “not invented here” that I at first took it for “Wormwood,” the junior demon in the Screwtape Letters - which also would fit.

@JohnBrady I love those movies better than a Tokien purist could, but I reread the books occasionally, too.

@ReaderJohn “Tolkien purists” are so pure that I doubt they would consider even Tolkien among their members. Not unlike Marx not being a pure “Marxist”.

@JohnBrady @ReaderJohn For sure! And of course not having Tom Bombadil in the movies is a huge omission, even for us non-purists. Let’s see how the new show handles it.
