I’m strongly considering completely deleting my Facebook and Twitter accounts. Algorithms that seek to “engage” and “enrage” counteract the peace and joy God directs me to in prayer and the study of scripture. — So, if civil war breaks out, would someone mind texting me and letting me know?

@marmanold I have come to the conclusion that important news will find me. If I could simply shut off all the algorithmic socials, I would.

@marmanold I quit Facebook so long ago that the only time I miss it is when some small business’s sole web presence is there.

@marmanold I left FB about 8 years ago and am so glad I left. I only miss it when I’m trying to get updates on extended family members. I’m still on Twitter/X but have been considering dropping it as well.

@marmanold I deleted my FB, Twitter, reddit accounts about ten years ago. What did it for me was tracking my time for two weeks and noticing how much of my time went to these platforms. I’m on micro.blog more than I probably should be, but otoh it doesn’t make me feel miserable and I learn interesting things here, so… still here.

@marmanold After reading Jaron Lanier’s book on the topic back in 2020, I deleted all social media (except M.b). I haven’t regretted it. As a pastor, I’m just as involved in the lives of my church, something I feared I might lose.
