Major league composting: My wife composts not only our food scraps and so on, but clothing that’s gone beyond wearability. A pair of denim jeans in the compost pile disappears in a year, leaving a few pieces of metal and a tangle of polyester thread. One time she composted a cotton-polyester blend shirt.... abbamoses.micro.blog

@jabel Another reason to get natural-fiber clothing. And to keep using our clothes as long as possible. And to have less clothes in the first place. I sense a rant coming on, so I'll stop here.

@JohnBrady Rant on! :) I agree on using clothing for a long time, and for having less of it. I have button-up work shirts that are older than Darcy. And I tend to wear my t-shirts until they have visible holes and then they go into the garage as shop rags. I hadn't considered the natural fiber aspect, though. That's a good point.

@jabel @JohnBrady Heck yeah!! Agreed on wearing clothes till they're full of holes. Lol, my tshirts and underwear are worn till they are see through. And yes on composting. I also have been experimenting with composting ALL paper packaging. Even plant-milk containers. They have a thin plastic film lining that I collect from the compost to put in trashafter the paper has gone away. Paper board get's used in layers as sheet compost with leaves and grass clippings put on top. It can get a bit messy but the worms and microbial life that thrives under it all seem fully satisfied because it tends to stay moist and cool even after weeks of hot summer weather.

@JohnBrady I have a nylon jackass shirt (loud floral "Hawaiian" print - woven, not knit) that must be close to 40 years old and still looks new. I'm wearing it right now.

I wouldn't buy another, but it sure qualifies in the longevity department. (Presumably would not compost)
