@Gaby Hahaha, my high school French teacher (a Mauritian) said something very similar to a girl in my class who was a serious chatterbox. She did not appreciate it…

@jayeless probably every teacher during my elementary school years and my mom, and probably a few ex’s — used to tell me that lo the time 😂😂😂

@Gaby @jayeless What does it mean?

My dad is Mauritian and was a teacher, he taught Maths though!

@Omrrc Basically, “we look prettier when we’re silent,” haha. And aside from my HS French teacher, the only other Mauritian I’ve met has been a teacher too! Funny coincidence.

@Omrrc @jayeless I am sure this is not a Puerto Rican thing only, but yeah, I used to hear it a lot in my childhood. Specially when adults wanted you to be quiet or it can also be another way of saying “if you got nothing nice to say about something, be silent” , or at least that was the interpretation a lot of us had. It is interesting how a quote can mean different things to different people.

@Gaby That’s interesting! I was told the ‘if you’ve got nothing nice to say’ line when I was younger but can’t remember who from!
