We’re starting up a new beta for Strata, our companion mobile app for private and shared notes in Micro.blog. You can join the TestFlight beta here. Bookmarks, tags, and highlights are moving into Strata and (eventually) out of the main Micro.blog app.

@manton this looks good. Thanks. I have not come across highlights before. How does this work?

@manton I think it makes sense to move these into Strata… but I think you have also bigger plans for those in the near future, am I right?

@Munish you save a webpage URL into MB and the content will be archived into MB. Then, you can read (and highlight) portion of the archived content… from there you can create linkpost using a specific text highlight.

@manton I don’t know if this is a bug or just something that ppl like me who don’t regularly beta test apps aren’t aware of: but because I had Strata installed previously, it seemed to log in me to the beta just fine. But I had to log out and log back in in order to get the beta to sync properly. I think?

@iChris Hmm, I’m not sure. We use the same app identifier for both the released version and the beta, so in theory they can be switched out without causing sign-in problems.

@manton Maybe I just hadn’t opened Strata on iOS in a while? Ok likely just me. :) Beta is working fine now on my iPhone.

@manton hey Manton I’m not clear on announcements you’ve made in the past about private notes. I’ve been using them a little on Premium. Then you announced they will be available on Regular ongoing. Then you seemed to reverse that except for grandfathered accounts.

I’m planning to downgrade to Regular but will I still be able to use private notes?

Some clarity would be appreciated :)

@aeryn This is indeed very confusing right now. Here’s where things stand with notes:

• We currently only advertise this feature for Micro.blog Premium, but it’s actually available for standard Micro.blog users as well. It is not available for Micro.one. So you can downgrade to Micro.blog ($5) and still have access.
• Sometime this year, we are going to split Strata off into its own optional subscription. At that time, no new users of Micro.blog will get it, but everyone with a current subscription before the change will be grandfathered in.

@manton right, that’s great! Thanks for clearing that up

@vincent @iChris i had a similar issue. I haven’t installed it before, but after I installed the beta, signed in, and entered my key, it wouldn’t sync until I logged out and back in again. It’s working fine now!

@stokini Logging out and in again fixed it for me too!
