A Florida principal has resigned under pressure from the school board after three parents complained that an art teacher had shown Michelangelo’s statue of the biblical shepherd “David” (1501–1504) to their 11- and 12-year-old sixth-graders. One parent even said the famous artwork was “pornographic.” The art teacher’s lesson was part of the curriculum’s mandatory unit on Renaissance art.

@SamHawken it’s an awful reactionary time we are living in. If I were a parent I would want my child exposed to Michaelangelo’s anything. What would my rights be in that situation? I am learning to dislike Christians across the board which is unfortunate because they don’t all pursue this sort of stupidity.

@mbkriegh @SamHawken I’m reading more and more about this and I was shocked that this is primarily the views of US states. Well, these people better never go to Rome and take a look around
