Starting my work day by letting someone go. Not a pleasant feeling at all. Doesn’t help that the employee was in the probationary period and lasted less than 2 months.

@pratik I know that feeling. This is the best time to figure it out, though. Take it from me that it only gets harder if a mismatch is left to linger too long.

@pratik I let one person go in my life, in 1990. Bad day I still remember, along with the day a few weeks later when the former assistant's mother called, not knowing she'd been fired.

@macgenie Ugh! That surely must have hit the feels. I felt really bad too since it was not someone who worked directly for me. It was an unfortunate situation all around.

@pratik Always a tough thing to deal with. Though I always tell myself that it is best for the employee to know quickly and have a chance to find a better place for themselves. Often they can get back to searching pretty quickly since their resume is up to date and their connections warmed up.

@Mtt Whoa! You sure got lucky considering it was Apple's stuff you leaked. But yeah, having that conversation is always tought but probably easier if the employee is aware they did something worth being fired over.

@pratik Yeah, I don’t know how I got away with it. To be clear, it was before release (not before announced). However, at the time, the only pics out there were from reviewers.

@pratik Well, it was a while later that I realized how stupid I’d been. I figured oh well at that point. I quit shortly after. Little did I know I’d be going back soon at a higher position and would be firing people for doing the same (although intentionally).

@pratik I was manager in F&B for many years. I couldn’t even guess how many people I let go. I learned to make sure everyone knew the expectations well in advance, most time they knew what was coming when when I called them into the office. I stayed in contact with many.
