I’ve suggested a couple times this year that I want to rethink the Micro.blog trial period. It feels like the time for a change. Next week I’m going to remove the 10-day trial. You can pay, or not! And new users can start with a Micro.one subscription and then upgrade to Micro.blog if they want to.

@manton Interesting. Micro.one is a free tier for Micro.blog? Sounds good. I'll stick with the $10/mo plan.

@manton glad to see you are still experimenting and trying new things. Curious to see what micro.one is. Giving out Christmas Blogs this year highlighted that signing up for a blog is still much more than signing up for a social media account. Some of that necessary, but some not.

@mitchw Not free. Spammers always take advantage of anything free, so free blogs are best handled by the big companies like Automattic and Google. (Also thank you!)

@manton Yeah, nope. This would bother me a bit if I was looking to try it.

It can't cost much to allow a 10-day trial.

Removing it seems ... money grubbing.

@jgobble It’s not really about money. It’s about simplifying things, which helps prioritize features that actually help customers.

@manton maybe a helpful data point but I just signed up earlier this month and the 10 day trial was a huge contributor to me doing that(it helped me get off the bench). Cheers!

@manton Good point about free. I'm looking forward to seeing what this entails.

@Gentry Same. Without the 10 day trial, I'm afraid I would have never signed up for micro.blog premium.

@Gentry @manton I too wouldn’t be a premium subscriber without the trial. I’m not going to pay for something without being sure it’s the right fit for me.

@manton just a counter example to some of the other replies, with all respect to those people...I'm pretty sure I didn't do the trial. I think I skipped it on the basis that micro.blog was markdown, and it was based on Hugo...and I'd probably be able to work around any wrinkles, and I wasn't betting lots of money or time on it anyway

More power to your elbow, in any case!

@samradford Also good to know, thanks. It's really difficult sometimes to tell if the trial is effective or not.

@mattypenny Thanks! That points to us better explaining what Micro.blog is, too. A lot of people try it and have no idea it's Hugo under-the-hood.
