Great interview with Manton Reece by @cdevroe. This excerpt popped a thought into my head. What if Micro.blog simply hosted a Mastodon instance like OMG.LOL, does it instead of its own timeline? 🤔 Micro.blog can also work as a companion to other networks, so if someone wants those features they can can us... microblog.pratikmhatre.com

@pratik I've considered it. But I would never be satisfied with Mastodon's design and goals. I would have to fork it, and then why not just build something unique from the start?

@manton Yeah, was just a thought in case it would make your work in maintaining the timeline any less so you can focus on the blog hosting part

@pratik Yeah, it's not necessarily a bad idea, just not the right approach for Micro.blog. I think Micro.blog is much more interesting than e.g. WordPress + Mastodon alone. I'm biased, of course. 🙂

@manton @pratik For months I have wanted a mashup of Micro.blog and Mastodon. Some way to combine the two so that I can have my boosts and Mastodon timeline while still retaining Micro.blog's focus. I haven't even got a precise vision of what that would look like and even if I did have that vision I don't have the coding skills or time to build it.

@lewin @pratik Even then, I'd still have to make significant changes to sync accounts and that sort of thing. I think it would create more problems than it solves.
