Today’s tea: Himalayan Evergreen Autumn, Nepal:

Grown at 1850m, these leaves were hand-plucked on the sunny morning of 30 October 2021, then quickly withered, pan-fired, rolled and oven-dried. The result is a delicate tea with a citrusy, buttery fragrance

@odd I stopped drinking coffee in about 1981. I stopped tea at the same time but after years started again, though not black tea. I now drink green or white, loose leaf only (except at cafes where teabags seem to rule). I'm experimenting with small bags of 'curated' teas at the moment. It's rather enjoyable.

@Miraz I started drinking coffee when I was eight, in 1977. Had one year without it in 2009, because of stomach problems, else I’ve always been drinking coffee. Tea is a rare indulgence, and I always appreciate it in the moment, but then forget about it the next day.

@Miraz @odd I never started to drink coffee, the number of coffee cups I've consumed in my life is probably in the single digits (you don't say no to some old sweet lady who have poured a cup!!). Tea, well that's a completely different thing, at least 2l/day. Unfortunately, I think I'm mostly a quantity person instead of quality. Hmmm, I need to buy more tea this week ... perhaps I should try some more "refined" tea 🤔

@jemostrom @miraz Is it because of the caffeine, or just the taste of coffee? My tea consumption is at the rate of 1 cup every other year or so now. ☕️/🫖

@odd it's the taste (I haven't had enough coffee to know if the caffeine would be a problem). I really don't like the taste of it, or beer, or wine. But coffee is fine as a spice, for example in chocolate, in ice cream, in cakes ... just not in fluid form.

@jemostrom @odd It's worth experimenting with some specialist teas — they're a world apart from what we in Aotearoa New Zealand call 'gumboot' tea — ie the 'ordinary' stuff you get from the supermarket.

@odd @jemostrom I initially stopped because of a suspected gastric ulcer then just stayed off (after a couple of minimal lapses).

@Miraz We do have a specialist tea and coffee shop in Oslo. It smells amazing in there. Maybe I’ll make a trip down there one of these days.

@odd @pimoore I find it amusing that both Odd and Even are common Norwegian names.

When I was studying in the UK, a Norwegian colleague was called Bent, which sometimes led to giggles.

@helgeg Haha, yes. There are also more than 600 that is called Steven, but when I ran a search for «Even Steven» there were less than four, or none that is called that.
