New Rules for our times.

For any take away / to-go food I will either pick it up myself or have the restaurant deliver it using their preferred delivery channel.

When I eat out, I don’t pay the taxi and have them pay the restaurant .. why is this different?

@bix yes - tho tips have two issues ... when in a restaurant you tip the waiter and the restaurant will have a system that spreads the money everywhere - batman , kitchen, bitlke washer etc

If you tip the delivery person none of that is likely to happen - it stays in that system delivery person and company who delivery person works for - AFTER they have taken 25 or 30% of the total bill

Not a system that can help restaurants get back on their feet.

Before - meal price plus 15/20 % to restaurant

After - meal price minus 30% to restaurant AND 30% to nameless corporate greed monger and any tips maybe even staying with them - until they get caught out.

@JohnPhilpin @Bix I'm with both of you here. One of my favorite Thai places was struggling, even before the pandemic, with the outrageous rates delivery services charge the restaurant. He's in a central location in a highly walkable neighborhood and people were opting for delivery from like 4 blocks away (!?!?)

Thanks, I’ll get it myself.

And tip.

The TipShitShow

Remember the old days when we took a taxi/lyft/uber/whatever to a restaurant and they booked us in and paid for our meal - and then simply presented us with a single transport and restaurant bill?

And then we paid them (plus tip).

And they then took the tip for themselves (maybe passing that tip on to the person that did the delivery) PLUS another 30% off the bill, for their services - and just paid the restaurant what was left?

No. Neither do I.

But that is what is happening when you order to-go through GrubHub, UberEats et al.

Order from the restaurant already.
