I’m toying with the idea of, once again, starting a retro 1990’s style webring hosted on Webringo. This time it would be a broad niche like “Personal websites and blogs”. Also, I think I would need to pre recruit some people to be members.

@bradenslen don’t you have a ring already?

@JohnPhilpin I had one, about blogs. I was the only member so it generated no interest. That and old school webrings take some effort to join. I took it down after about 6 months.

Another niche possibility: Micro.blog blogs.

I still see a lot of people talking about webrings tho.

@JohnPhilpin There is an indie web ring, I'm in it but I don't own it. I just joined another ring called Hotline Webring, but again I'm just a member, I don't run it. There are a couple of others around like a podcasting one too. None mine.

Thanks for the feedback, I also like the idea of an unofficial micro blog specific one, the more I think about it.

@JohnPhilpin @kusters That's great! Thanks for the support. It's almost done, but I broke my MB hosted blog: Hugo Theme Errors, so that has delayed it a bit. Email in to @manton

@bradenslen I was just looking over your email. You might want to change the theme back to the default in the meantime so that everything works. (If you've customized one of the built-in designs, you can choose "None" from the popup list. That way your custom changes are still there but not used.)

@manton Okay I tried that and it broke the default theme too.

@JohnPhilpin @kusters I failed to make a webring due to an http/https conflict. However, I have made an oxymoron: a "Liniear Ring" for Micro.blot Blogs with traffic shared through a hub. It should work fine providing Micronaughts participate. I hope you and anybody else on MB seeing this will join because it needs bug testing before I promote it more widely.

As far as ease of joining goes: it turns out to be much easier than if I was using Webringo or Webring to host a 1990's style webring.
