My Dropbox renewal is coming up and I think I’ll migrate my Dropbox folder to iCloud Drive, save money and at some point ditch the Dropbox app. Need to check a couple of things over the next few weeks in terms of app intergration but I think I have very few these days.
@adamprocter iCloud Drive is working great for me. The only drawback so far, for me, is having no selective sync option on Windows.
@adamprocter I use both ... but only pay for iCloud ... I am long enough into Dropbox that I have a few free gigas for introducing people to the system ... I often think about killing Dropbox and Gdrive for that matter ... and would ... particiculalrly the google thing if it wasn’t for others preferring ‘their drug of choice’. That said Dropbox does seem to be better integrated and flexible around the world of the web than iCloud is .. so it will be around for me for a while.
@adamprocter it is the years of cruft in my Dropbox that worries me. App folders and setting that are aliased into Dropbox. I am not really sure about half of the things that go on there.
@andynicolaides Can you highlight what specific changes in iOS 13 are coming for iCloud that make it better? I too have been toying with the idea of ditching DropBox.
@adamprocter I pay for both and am really considering "dropping" Dropbox, pun intended. Just...I have 12 years worth of stuff in my Dropbox account...tell me if and when you make the switch to see if you like it.
@johnjohnston yes i think it will just be legacy apps and IFTTT scripts but I have mainly migrated from that intergration and even if there is one of two apps I suspect if I really needed them they could work under the free DB. Have moved everything will see what complains nothing is lost just moved and I have a month left on paid version to test
@tiffany have copied all the files and now will see what apps complain over the next week or so.
@andynicolaides Thanks. That does sound exciting. I’ll probably start using it more often once it’s out before transitioning completely. Wish 1Password let us sync their vault on iCloud too.
