@manton any reason my timeline doesn’t show everyone - only people I follow? I think I checked my settings ok.

@Jax It should show people you follow (and your own posts) but not everyone on Micro.blog. You can click on the Discover section to browse a selection of other new posts and find people follow too.

@manton

Slightly - maybe very - confused.

I thought that the follow everything got everything delivered. No?

@JohnPhilpin In your case, everyone = everyone you follow. 😊

@JohnPhilpin Nope! Never has worked that way. The discovery angle on the default timeline is that you'll see people you follow in conversations with people who you do not follow, based entirely on the followed status of the person you follow. It's a faux friends of friend, networking style feed.

I guess it could be possible to see every single thing posted to Micro.blog, probably via some sort of feed. Though I'm not aware of what that feed is, if it exists at all.

@simonwoods aah ... new news ... even after all of this time ... so if a new user never follows anyone they will never experience the stream ... maybe that needs to be thought through more ... because it isn’t clear - at least to this dumbo - and means the community is actually hidden from the getgo.

@JohnPhilpin Other parts of onboarding have been gradually worked on, including the new home page, the email you get when registering, and the auto-followed accounts are now down to just "News".

Part of me wonders if simply auto-loading the Discover tab would be a big, simple boost at least in the short term. I mean, I still think a hello/new person/first post tagmoji would be good for finding the new members but it could also help if you encourage people to use it for their first post.

@simonwoods I find this a little problematic, to be honest, with the relatively tight curation of the Discover stream. It’s mostly a mix of the same people and some brand-new people who need welcoming. That means a lot of posts fall through the cracks and never get seen by newcomers.

My two cents....

@grayareas I agree that using Discover is a limited approach but I do think it still can, and should be improved.

One of the biggest problems with this particular aspect of onboarding is that there will always be posts that newcomers miss. It's simply not possible to see every single post, guaranteed, although I think it is important to look beyond any singular route such as Discover. I just haven't thought too much about the other routes myself at thjis point.

@simonwoods Yeah, I agree. Not certain what a better answer is.
