With the big character limit change behind us, I had a free morning to work on anything. This is my favorite thing about being small. Added a new CSV export for highlights based on recent feedback.

Don’t sleep on our bookmarks and highlights feature. 🙂 It is going to grow into something special.

@manton That last bit is intriguing. I'll keep one eye open for sure. :)

@manton And works like a charm. Now off to see if Readwise will import these. @johnphilpin

@jasonmcfadden One piece of the feature that we'll do more with is the "archiving" part, where it makes a copy of all text, images, and styles from a bookmarked post. Like a miniature Internet Archive. But for now it lacks the tools to really run with this as a personal archive.

@pratik @JohnPhilpin Let me know if you discover anything. I've yet to fully look at Readwise.

@manton @johnphilpin Works pretty well. Readwise does a good job of documenting how the format of the CSV should be. I had to make minor edits to the column headers. The only problem was that it categorized the import as books instead of articles. Perhaps they need to have a column for 'type' during import. I'm unsure of the last two columns in the Micro.blog export. Are those the 'location'?

@manton This is great! Going to be very good for Second Brain people.

@pratik Yes, I think our "selection start" is similar to Readwise's "location". I hadn't seen this file format before and might change our columns to match it.

@manton That would be great if you could change it. BTW for the URL, should I use the one on AWS or the original source? The former might be better in terms of longevity, right? I wasn't sure if that was meant for public use.

@pratik I'm going to change our CSV to match Readwise. The original URL is best to use. The archived URL can be shared, it's not considered private, but it's most useful if the original URL goes away.

@manton That makes sense. The export can include both links though, but the column name original can be URL. Much thanks!

Interesting … I am not a premium user, so can’t really explore, but another interesting case of MicroBlog seeking to provide some basic functionality for premium users if you don’t want to go all in on

Podcasts with (say) Simplecast Newsletters with (say) Substack Bookshelves with (say) Literal and now Bookmarks with (say) Readwise

I have never used the bookmarklet in MB .. so can’t comment on how it fits in … in fact my use of bookmarks at all in MB has been pretty much all over the place … only recently doing some spring cleaning, so now my only book marks are posts in MB I have intention to return to, because I have a comment in my head that is going to take time to respond to.

@pratik @manton

Dan Dyon over at Readwise is very responsive for help.

Pratik … I don’t know, but I am fully expecting the articles, books etc categories to be given an overhaul and love… since they are now indexing video (just YouTube for now) and podcasts … eg Snipd now integrates with Readwise .. but both those end up in ‘Articles’ … which seems to be more accurately ‘the rest’ …

Readwise of course also has an Obsidian plugin.

Said this before … back when all the bookshelves was going on … my vote would be for Microblog to spend more time integrating and synching with the specialist apps out there .. like

Readwise, lettrboxd, reels, literal, simplecast, innoreader and the rest

And also putting more energy into building out unique solutions for the core platform, this right now for me would include better page and category management

Rather than building yet more functionality into the core app that in many ways replicates what is already around.
