🔗 Why I’m leaving Substack.

Substack is designed for writers, not business owners.

💬 Ellen Donnelly

What she means is that Substack doesn’t have all the data tracking guff and stuff that comes with the marketing ESPs like Mailchimp and Constant Contact.

@JohnPhilpin That's curious because I choose Ghost over Substack because it seems better geared for writers.

@billbennettnz I like the look of ghost .. far more complete, richer and rounder than substack no doubt … but for the non pro world, the fees are not cheap … whereas substack let’s you do it for free, albeit with a larger slice of the action.

As a Ghost user, have you explored folding podcasts into the whole flow? You can on Substack .. but resisted because i am not sure I like the podcasts and newsletters coming from the same source ( maybe I am missing something ) .. and not convinced that they do a good enough job in syndicating to all the services and players … so have … for now … left my self at simplecast.

If I could kill simplecast, I could see myself moving blog, newsletter and podcast to ghost … although about 80% of my newsletter signups are coming from the substack network .. they do a really good job on that side of things.
