It’s really nice to see a bunch of people I would usually not follow on Twitter making their way over to Mastodon. Still wondering where to put everyone. Feedbin, Micro.blog or dedicated app. The first is best for reading. The second and third is great for replying and interacting.

@kaa A lot of those I'm following on Mastodon are being pushed into groups. The third party app Ivory has an option to filter accounts out of the main timeline upon putting them into a group. Helps organize things a bit.

@kaa that seperation of the two is really annoying ... because the jump from the 'reading' experience to the 'interacting' experience is jarring.

@JohnPhilpin exactly. I wish Feedbin had the interaction part built in, then I would be golden :).

@kaa I think this is what @dave has been banging on about for years #interop - he's not wrong!

Talking of dave - have you taken a look at what he is up to with Feedland?

@kaa In lieu of Twitter, I’m focusing on MB not Mastadon. I do follow Twitter feeds via FeedBin. I had this capability with Reeder but that feature seems broken for the past few months.

@dave speaking for @kaa .. as you read a tweet in Feedbin .. being able to replay and otherwise interact with the tweet / toot

@dave exactly what @johnphilpin said. I'm in Feedbin, I see a post I press a button and can see the conversation. I'm logged into my Mastodon or Micro.blog account and reply and move on with my day. No need to get out of that environment - which is kinda jarring.

@kaa @JohnPhilpin @dave Feedbin will now expand links in microposts right within the article view, even if using Reeder. I agree it would be great to just tap into the thread and interact, but the thread view itself is only available in the Feedbin web view, or official app. Sadly, the latter of which is not as polished as Reeder.

@pimoore -- i think basically we need one timeline for each user. lots of choice, but one timeline. and there have to be a basic agreement on what goes in that timeline. what are the elements of a message. and a way to expand, to support more types. something minimal, orderly, easy to document, lots of example code. once i get finished with the new FeedLand release, I want to work on this.

@dave I really like this idea!

@pimoore

@brentsimmons has added twitter viewing support in NetNewsWire … where I am adding a few feeds that are just nice to look at and don’t really require interaction.

Dave’s Feedland is a step further … but I think there is something fundamental about the way RSS has been interpreted by many as being one way … I have a feeling in the original spec by Mr. Winer it should be possible to be bi-directional … but I am now talking well outside of my pay grade.

@JohnPhilpin I don't have access to Feedland so not sure how it moves things a little further (although I am definitely interested), but going to definitely rwach out to Ben to see if this is something he is considering for Feedbin.

@skoobz how and where are you managing groups in Mastodon ... and are they essentially the lists of Twitter?

@JohnPhilpin Yup, basically just like Twitter lists. On Mastodon’s sidebar they’re right below bookmarks. That location varies from app to app, however.

@skoobz got it - thankyou - subtle difference - in Twitter I ran lists rather than followed a lot of people - in Mastodon I have to follow to be able to add. All good. Just an observation.

@skoobz Thankyou … will keep an eye open … toot seems to serve me well …as did the ‘official’ client .. until I discovered lists 😏
